The Supervisor shall have the exclusive right to exercise all of the powers of the SMH Board, the corporation, its officers and corporate members. This includes, without limitation, providing direction to SMH’s officers, employees and agents.
Pursuant to subsection 9(8) of the PHA, the Supervisor has the same rights as the Board and Chief Executive Officer of SMH in respect of the documents, records and information of the Board and the hospital.
Eric Hanna was appointed by the Ministry of Health as Supervisor of Stevenson Memorial Hospital on September 28, 2024. He has recently completed an interim assignment as the President and CEO of Campbellford Memorial Hospital. Eric retired September 2021 from full time work in the Ontario Health System as the President and CEO of Arnprior Regional Health. As a visionary leader, Eric engaged the staff and Board of Directors in evidenced based leadership in pursuit of “creating a healthy community”. Recognition of this leadership includes the receipt of the Chairman’s Award for Distinguished Community Service from the Arnprior Chamber of Commerce, American College of Health Service Executives, OHA-Small and Rural Hospital Leadership award and Norma Rudy Award for Sector Contribution by Advantage Ontario.
Eric has over 35 years of health care experience obtained in hospitals/long term care facilities, a Director of one of Canada’s largest consulting firms and was as a Surveyor with Accreditation Canada. In the recent past Eric has been appointed as a investigator and Supervisor by Ontario Health for organizations deemed to be failing in their performance. As a Surveyor, Eric has been a member of teams surveying health systems across Canada, and smaller free-standing organizations in Ontario. He has a MBA from the University of Toronto and received his CA designation early in his career. He is a Certified Health Care Executive with Canadian College of Health Care Executives and is a Fellow with the American College of Health Services Executives.
Eric has been a member of several task groups at local level and Provincial Expert Panels in the development and implementation of integrated service delivery models for both clinical and non-clinical services. Mr. Hanna was a member of the MoH LTC Advisory Committee overseeing the current long term care bed redevelopment program; member of LTC Working Group of the Premiers Council and was the chair of the OHA Small Rural and Northern Hospital Advisory Committee. With extensive knowledge in Long Term Care, Eric is a regular presenter at Advantage Ontario’s Administrators certification program and also to their governance education sessions.
As an active community volunteer, Eric has been involved with the boards of Durham Community Care Access Centre, Victorian Order of Nurses, and the Durham College Accounting Advisory Committee. Eric is the past Chair of Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada and is currently a Governor of Trent University.
