PRESS RELEASE: SMH receives HIRF funding

Stevenson Memorial Hospital receives HIRF funding to complete essential facility repairs

New Tecumseth, ON (January 24, 2019) – On January 22, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced an investment of $175 Million from the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) to help 128 hospitals across the province upgrade, repair and maintain their facilities.

After actively advocating with government representatives on behalf of our community to complete essential upgrades and repairs, Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) received $646,910 from the HIRF package for elevator modernization and small boiler replacement.

“We are grateful to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care for investing in the infrastructure of our hospital, helping to make the necessary facility improvements to ensure SMH can continue to provide a safe and comfortable environment for patients to receive care,” says Jody Levac, President & CEO of Stevenson Memorial Hospital.

“The HIRF funds will be used to replace our elevators and small boilers. The small boiler replacement will ensure that SMH has modern, reliable and energy efficient back up capacity to the main boiler which was upgraded in 2018,” continues Levac.

“The Board and management team recognize the importance of a reliable and efficient elevator system to maintain critical ambulatory specialty services and dialysis, and other support services.  HIRF funding will allow the team at SMH to upgrade major elevator components and provide necessary modernization for two elevator cars,” says Levac.

“Once modernized, the newly funded elevators will remain in place when the redevelopment is approved and the new structure is built. It’s a needed step towards providing a long-term solution to provide the highest quality of care today within our existing infrastructure while also looking forward to the future growth of our hospital and community.”
