[New Tecumseth, Sept. 17, 2020] As of Monday, September 21, 2020 Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) will extend the hours of operation of its COVID-19 Assessment Centre to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will continue to run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays each week. Friday, Sept. 18th will be the last day the Centre operates from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
The COVID-19 Assessment Centre has seen a significant increase in volume since the return to work and school for individuals and families.
“Our staff and physicians have been working extremely hard to surveil our community during the COVID-19 pandemic and provide this essential service,” says Jody Levac, President and CEO, SMH. “We are testing upwards of 140 people in a four-hour period and the volume we are seeing indicates we need to increase our hours. We are doing everything we can to help meet the needs of our community with COVID-19 testing while we ramp up services in our Hospital,” he adds.
The Centre has provided over 5,000 swab tests to date and continues to operate as a drive-thru service. Appointments are not necessary. Depending on volume, the last car admitted to the Centre may be at 3:30 p.m. The COVID-19 Assessment Centre will do their best to see as many individuals as possible.
