COVID-19 Assessment Centre Switching to Same-Day Booking

[New Tecumseth, ON – Nov. 5, 2021] Stevenson Memorial Hospital’s (SMH) COVID-19 Assessment Centre will be switching to same-day appointment booking by phone as of Wednesday, November 10. Ontario Health is implementing a new IT infrastructure, changing the way samples and results are handled and reported by the province. SMH has made some adjustments to its operations to accommodate this change.

Patients will be required to call the Centre on the day they require a COVID-19 test to register for a same-day appointment. Spots will be reserved for those with upcoming surgeries and planned inductions. Phones will be answered from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The Centre will continue to operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

*New: the COVID-19 Assessment Centre at SMH is adding an additional day and will be open on the following Thursdays as well: Dec. 2, 9 and 16.

Appointments can be booked by calling SMH’s Assessment Centre registration line at (249) 501-0383.

Please note that only individuals who meet the provincial criteria will receive a COVID-19 test:

  • they have COVID-19 symptoms;
  • have been exposed to a confirmed case of the virus, as notified by public health unit or the COVID Alert app;
  • live or work in a setting that has a COVID-19 outbreak;
  • are a high-risk group as defined by a provincial health official;
  • require a test to visit a long-term care resident;
  • require a test prior to surgery.
