New Family Physician joins the Family Health Team

The Alliston Family Health Team, Alliston and Area Physician Recruitment Committee and Stevenson Memorial Hospital are pleased to officially announce that another family physician has been recruited for our community.

Dr. Avneet Parmar first visited the community last year. She completed an elective during her final months of residency and began taking ER shifts at Stevenson in November. She opened her family practice with the Alliston Family Health Team in February.

Dr. Parmar received her medical degree (MBChB Medicine) from the Leicester Medical School in England. She completed her family medicine residency at McMaster University in Ontario in 2013. Dr. Parmar enjoys working with children and was involved in public health initiatives designed to encourage children and adolescents to take an interest in their own health. She says she hopes to work collaboratively with patients to help them achieve their own health care goals.

“Dr. Parmar is working very well with our team. She is knowledgeable and enthusiastic and is providing skilled care to her new patients and we are glad to have her with us,” said Dr. Izabella Kogan, lead physician at the FHT.

Dr. Oswaldo Ramirez, Chief of the ER and Chief of Staff at Stevenson said he had a chance to get to know Dr. Parmar while he was her preceptor. He said she has worked shifts in the ER and he is glad to have her as part of the ER team.

“Dr. Parmar not only chose Canada, she chose Alliston as her place of practice,” said Keith White, chair of the AAPRC. He thanked the members of the AAPRC, AFHT and hospital for working together to bring Dr. Parmar to the area. “We hope she will be very happy in her new practice,” he said.

“Coming from a small town in England, I’m thrilled to be joining your community in the New Tecumseth area. As a general practitioner, I am passionate about providing care to everyone from all backgrounds and ages and I look forward to bringing my experience to the Alliston Family Health Team and Stevenson Memorial Hospital.”

Dr. Parmar says she has received a warm welcome to the community and practice.

“Thank you to everyone who has made me feel so welcome and made this transition a pleasure,” she said.”
