$1 million Window Replacement Project at SMH
[New Tecumseth, ON – January 18, 2024] Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) is undergoing an unprecedented project at the hospital, replacing patient room windows thanks to a Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) grant from the Ministry of Health.
The hospital received $1,058,000 million in HIRF funding to replace the original windows of the hospital, which are almost 60 years old. The new windows will increase efficiency with heating and cooling, will lower energy costs and will reduce noise and vibration, a key element as the hospital plans to start construction on a new hospital building next year.
“This is a significant project to improve efficiency including heating and cooling in our current hospital facility, as we work towards building a new hospital for our community,” says Jody Levac, President and CEO, SMH. “We are continuously making improvements as best we can to our facility that are patient-minded while planning for our future,” he adds.
The project will take roughly two months to complete, updating windows in their Medical/Surgical inpatient unit, Outpatient Department, Obstetrics, Day Surgery and Dialysis Units. The project will provide energy costs savings for the long-term and will provide a facelift for the dated facility.
The hospital is embarking on the construction of a new 152,000 square-foot facility that will wrap-around the current hospital building. Inpatient bed capacity will increase by 20 per cent. It will include a complete revitalization of the Emergency Department, doubling the square footage of the hospital. Laboratory space will be enhanced, surgical suites, inpatient rooms, birthing suites and more. The design features significant use of natural light, modern features, enhanced parking and new, refreshed gardens and green space.
