New Windows at SMH
[July 16, 2024] We are pleased to highlight the completion of our new window installation, which took place this past spring. Brand new windows were installed in patient rooms and offices across the hospital, making significant improvements in heating and cooling and noise reduction, enhancing the comfort of patients and staff. The efficiency of the new windows will lower energy costs for the hospital and SMH has already experienced savings thanks to this project.
An unprecedented project at SMH, the windows were almost 60 years old as they were original to the hospital. SMH received a $1,058,000 grant from the Ministry of Health to complete the project through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF).
“This is one major update that has taken place as we work towards the redevelopment and expansion of our hospital,” says Wayne Willcott, Senior Director, Corporate Infrastructure and Redevelopment, SMH. “Our redevelopment project includes a new facility that will wrap around our current hospital building. These new windows will last many years and were important to put in place before construction of the new expansion starts, as they will help reduce noise and vibration. We are thankful to have received the HIRF grant from the Ministry of Health,” he adds.
Construction of the new expansion is slated to take place in 2025.
