[New Tecumseth, ON – Thursday, November 25, 2022] – On November 24, 2022, the Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) Auxiliary presented the SMH Foundation with a cheque for $20,100. The donation will purchase two new stretchers for the Day Surgery Department, as well as a wheelchair scale for the Medical/Surgical (inpatient) Department.
With stretchers being a vital piece of equipment used daily, this donation couldn’t have come at a better time. In addition, wheelchair scales allow healthcare providers the ability to accurately weigh patients while providing them comfort.
“On behalf of the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, I can’t thank our community enough for their tremendous support of our Tag Days this summer as well as our Annual Raffle,” says Gary Munro, President of the SMH Auxiliary. “It has been a challenging past two and a half years for the Auxiliary, but we are thrilled to be back supporting our hospital and fundraising for critical equipment needs.”
The hospital relies on donations from the community for equipment needs as annual funding from the government does not cover these costs.
Sales from their Annual Raffle, which sold out this year, raised the $20,100 presented to the SMH Foundation. The SMH Auxiliary has continued to raise funds for the hospital since their inception in April,1928. In total, the Auxiliary has contributed more than $1 million to support the purchase of critical equipment for SMH.
“Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation is thankful for the continued support from the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Their continued efforts in helping to raise funds impact the hospital staff and their patients in countless ways” says Mary Thomas, CEO of Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation.
