Contract Awarded for New Facility Construction
January 30, 2026
[New Tecumseth, ON – January 30, 2026] Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH), in partnership with the Ontario government and its agency Infrastructure Ontario (IO), has awarded Pomerleau Inc. the contract to build a new hospital facility at SMH. This signifies a green light for construction to begin in the coming weeks.
“We look forward to working closely with Pomerleau Inc. as we build a new hospital facility for Stevenson and a new future, transforming health care for New Tecumseth and surrounding communities,” says Carmine Stumpo, Supervisor, SMH.
The new facility will more than double the size of the hospital and feature modern, comfortable spaces for patients, visitors, staff and the hospital community overall. Once complete, the new hospital will include an Emergency Department triple the size of the current space, expanded medical/surgical inpatient unit with 100 per cent single-occupancy patient rooms, expanded Diagnostic Imaging suites with brand new equipment, including the addition of an MRI Suite – a first for SMH. A bright new Obstetrics Unit will also be included with family-friendly spaces, new state-of-the-art surgical suites and more.
Designed to meet current and future capacity needs, the new facility will ensure patients and families in New Tecumseth and surrounding areas can continue to receive the high-quality care they need in their growing community for years to come.
