Dialysis
SMH operates a Dialysis Unit on the hospital's second floor, just to the left of the elevators. This clinic provides dialysis services for patients with ongoing kidney disease.
The hospital's Dialysis Unit is a satellite of the Regional Renal Program located at RVH in Barrie, supported by physicians, dieticians, social workers, and pharmacists. SMH’s Dialysis Unit has six stations and operates six days per week, with two shifts of patients daily. From time to time there is space available to accommodate travelling patients.
The satellite site accepts only patients who are stable in their dialysis journey. Patients who are newly diagnosed with renal failure must receive their dialysis at the Regional site in Barrie until they are stabilized and well enough to have dialysis here at SMH. If your condition changes while at SMH, you may be required to complete dialysis at the regional center on a temporary or permanent basis. If you wish to have dialysis in Alliston, you may be added to the wait list when a space becomes available.
Nurses specialized in dialysis work closely with our patients and comprehensive care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals. Patients are supported and monitored by a team which includes a Nephrologist, Dietitian Social Worker and Pharmacist provided through Royal Victoria Hospital.
